President’s Message
Fall 2024
I hope you’ve all had a fun summer! Our board members have been busy planning programs
for the coming year, and we’re pleased to announce that we're offering 17 hours of CPE in
Harrisonburg between September and next April!
All of our lunch meetings will be held in the Sunnyside Communities Corporate Office Board
Room which is conveniently located at 600 University Blvd next to Costco. Our lunch meetings
last approximately 90 minutes during which time you have an opportunity to eat lunch, chat
with area accountants, and earn an hour of CPE! Everyone is welcome at all meetings whether
you’re an IMA member or not.
We’re kicking off the year on September 12th with Matthew Dana, who’s with the Virginia
Department of Transportation. He will be providing an update on VDOT projects including I-81
improvements. In October, Jeff Souder, Budget Director at JMU, will be speaking on budgeting.
In November, we’re excited to feature speakers from two area not-for-profit organizations –
Matt Tibbles, Executive Director at Our Community Place, and Kimberley Fontaine, Executive
Director of Central Valley Habitat for Humanity.
We’re holding a half-day seminar on Thursday, December 19th at Spotswood Country Club
which will include sessions on taxes and Excel. Also, mark your calendars for April 17, 2025 for
an 8-hour session which will include the Virginia required Ethics course.
We use proceeds from our full and half-day CPE events to fund scholarships that we award to
accounting students at our local colleges and universities. This past year, we awarded three
$1,000 scholarships to accounting students!
We hope you’ll make plans to join us in the coming months for some CPE and fellowship with
other area accountants!
